CITY RECOGNIZES POVERTY ACTION WEEK
WHITEHORSE – The City will be recognizing this year’s Poverty and Homelessness Action Week with free admission to the Canada Games Centre this Saturday, Deputy Mayor Ranj Pillai announced.

“The City is pleased to be working in cooperation with the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition to offer citizens the chance to come together as a community in recognition of this important week,” said Pillai. “If you haven’t had the chance to visit the Games Centre then October 16 is your chance, on us.”

The City will also be accepting cash and food donations at the reception area to support the Whitehorse Food Bank.
Free admission to the October 16 event includes access to all membership areas of the facility including the pool, wellness centre and running track as well as all regular activities.

One-day entry fees to the centre are $7 for an adult, $5.70 for seniors and youth, $3.60 for children, and $16.40 for families.
“We are thrilled that the Games Centre is opening its doors to those who might not have had an opportunity to play there,” says Bill Thomas, co-chair of the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition. “And we are encouraging Whitehorse residents to find someone to bring along and enjoy the facility, possibly for the first time.”
