Rebranding Initiative

CITY MOVES AHEAD WITH REBRANDING INITIATIVE
WHITEHORSE – In line with direction from its 2009 Economic Development Charrette, the City is issuing a request for proposals (RFP) on October 29 to begin its rebranding initiative, Deputy Mayor Ranj Pillai said.

“In 2009 the business community asked the City to look at its role in a number of economic issues including the area of branding,” said Pillai. “A comprehensive branding strategy is one of the many initiatives the City is examining as a result of our Economic Development Charrette.

“I’d like to thank the business community for their input and the Yukon Government for their generous contribution that made this project possible,” said Pillai.

The City’s rebranding initiative is a joint funding initiative, with $50,000 coming from the Yukon Government’s Department of Economic Development and $10,000 coming from the City.

The City of Whitehorse continues to work on a number of issues raised in its 2009 Economic Development Charrette, including the development of a Downtown Parking Management Plan, land development activities, research into energy issues, and improved trail systems.

“The rebranding initiative will be an extensive exercise that will include research into how the City currently markets itself to potential investors, tourists and prospective employees,” said Public Relations Manager Matthew Grant. “The project will also involve significant public consultation to ensure the vision of the community is captured.”
