Carmacks
Driving 2 hours north of Whitehorse by highway (175 km), you reach Carmacks, Yukon, what is known as the "Hub of the Yukon". Located at the junction of the North Klondike and Robert Campbell Highways, where the Nordenskiold River joins the Yukon River, from Carmacks you can easily travel by road to almost any destination in the Yukon.
Because of its location, Carmacks is a perfect base-camp location for exploring the Yukon. Canoeists can enjoy the Five Finger Rapids downriver, and explore the variety of hiking trails and vast area by bike, boat, ATV or snow mobile.
Just four hours away is the historic gold rush town of Dawson City, a perfect day trip. The local restaurants in Carmacks offer fine northern fare, Chinese food and steaks, and in the winter season the northern lights will dazzle the night sky.
Visit the Tage Cho Hudan interpretive centre to see the Northern Tutchone history, or take a walking tour along the boardwalk through the Community.
Enjoy Carmacks and explore the surrounding Yukon sights!
